Pahóm, a peasant, is never satisfied with the land he owns and always wants more. He hears about a group of people who will give him as much land as he can walk around in one day. Driven by greed, he walks farther and farther to claim more land, exhausting himself in the process. By the end of the day, he desperately tries to return to his starting point before sunset, but he becomes completely exhausted and dies when he reaches it. The story’s moral is that a person only truly needs enough land to be buried in, showing that greed and endless desire for more can lead to destruction.
