John and Laura Baxter travel to Venice after the death of their daughter to try to recover from their grief. There, they meet two sisters, one of whom claims to have psychic abilities and says she can see their dead child.
Laura is comforted by this idea, but John is skeptical. However, he soon begins seeing strange visions in Venice, especially a mysterious figure in a red coat, which unsettles him deeply.
As his anxiety grows, the boundary between reality and illusion becomes unclear. The story ends with a tragic twist, showing how grief and perception can lead to fatal misunderstanding.
