The story follows David Lurie, a university professor who loses his job after having an inappropriate relationship with a student. He leaves Cape Town and moves to his daughter Lucy’s farm in the countryside.
Their lives change dramatically when they are attacked during a violent home invasion. Lucy is raped, and David feels powerless and deeply shaken. After the attack, their relationship becomes strained as they both struggle to cope with trauma, guilt, and fear in a changing society.
