Clara Hutt is a middle-aged woman who feels comfortable with her life until her old school friend Gaby reappears. Gaby is stylish, beauty-obsessed, and seems to have aged much better than Clara, which makes Clara suddenly more aware of her own ageing.
As Clara compares herself to Gaby and other younger women around her, she begins to lose confidence and questions her appearance. She becomes torn between accepting natural ageing and considering cosmetic treatments like Botox.
The novel is a witty and satirical exploration of ageing, beauty standards, self-esteem, and female friendship.
