David Copperfield by Charles Dickens is a coming-of-age novel that follows the life of David from childhood to adulthood.
David is born after his father’s death and grows up under the harsh control of his stepfather, Mr. Murdstone. His early life is difficult, and he suffers from neglect and strict discipline. He is later sent to boarding school, where he experiences hardship and poverty.
After leaving school, David works in a factory in London, but he eventually escapes and goes to live with his kind aunt, Betsey Trotwood, who supports him and gives him a better education.
As an adult, David becomes a writer and experiences love, friendship, success, and betrayal. Important characters in his life include Uriah Heep, a dishonest and manipulative man; Mr. Micawber, who is poor but always optimistic; and Agnes Wickfield, who represents kindness and stability.
