Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe follows Okonkwo, a respected warrior in the Igbo village of Umuofia. Determined to avoid the failures of his father, he becomes wealthy and influential through hard work and courage.
After accidentally killing a clansman, Okonkwo is exiled from his village for seven years. During this time, British missionaries and colonial rulers arrive, bringing Christianity and changing traditional Igbo society.
When Okonkwo returns, he finds that many villagers have accepted the new religion and customs. Unable to stop these changes and frustrated by the loss of his culture, Okonkwo faces a tragic fate.
