Alexandra Bergson, a young Swedish immigrant, inherits her family farm in Nebraska after her father’s death. While many settlers struggle and leave the harsh land, Alexandra believes in its potential and decides to stay and develop the farm.
Through hard work and determination, she turns the farm into a successful and prosperous property. However, her success brings loneliness and family tension, as her brothers do not understand her choices.
A parallel tragic story follows her brother Emil and Marie Shabata, a married woman. Their forbidden love ends in tragedy when they are both killed by Marie’s jealous husband.
