A pregnant widow, Roser, and Victor Dalmau, an army doctor, are forced into an arranged marriage while fleeing Franco’s victory in the Spanish Civil War. As refugees, they escape to Chile aboard a ship chartered by Pablo Neruda and begin a new life in exile. Together, they face hardship, displacement, and the turmoil of a world moving toward another war, but gradually build a life marked by resilience, hope, and unexpected companionship while always longing for their homeland.
