The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoevsky tells the story of Prince Lev Myshkin, a kind and honest young man who returns to Russia after receiving treatment for epilepsy in Switzerland. Because of his innocence and sincerity, many people see him as an "idiot."
Myshkin becomes involved with Nastasya Filippovna, a troubled woman, and Aglaya Epanchin, a young woman from a wealthy family. As love, jealousy, and rivalry grow, he struggles to help those around him through compassion and understanding.
Despite his goodness, Myshkin cannot prevent tragedy. The novel explores the clash between innocence and a society driven by pride, greed, and selfishness.
