The story follows the Karamazov family, especially the father Fyodor Karamazov, a selfish and immoral man, and his three sons: Dmitri, Ivan, and Alyosha.
Family tensions grow because of money disputes and a woman named Grushenka, who is desired by both Fyodor and Dmitri. One day, Fyodor is murdered, and Dmitri is accused of the crime and put on trial.
