Greg Heffley lives in a town that decides to go “old school” and temporarily give up modern technology. Greg struggles with this because he depends on gadgets and comfort.
At home, things get more chaotic when his grandfather moves in with the family. At school, Greg has awkward experiences, including a “homework buddies” program.
He also goes on a school trip to Hardscrabble Farm, where students must live without modern conveniences. The trip is uncomfortable and full of strange rumors and difficulties.
