Here I Am tells the story of the Bloch family, a Jewish-American couple living in Washington, D.C., whose marriage slowly breaks down due to emotional distance, conflicts, and infidelity. They struggle to maintain their family life while raising three sons, including the eldest who is preparing for his bar mitzvah.
At the same time, a major earthquake in the Middle East triggers a political and military crisis involving Israel and its neighboring countries, increasing global tension.
The novel connects the collapse of a family with the collapse of political stability, exploring themes such as identity, responsibility, faith, marriage, and what it means to truly be “present” in one’s life and relationships.
