Raymond Gunt is a lazy, selfish, and often rude British cameraman. He is hired to work on a reality TV show and travels with a crew from London to a remote Pacific island.
During the journey, Raymond causes problems everywhere he goes because of his irresponsible behavior and constant lies. He sees himself as a decent person, but his actions clearly show the opposite.
On the island, the reality TV production quickly falls into chaos, with conflicts, absurd situations, and increasing madness. The novel becomes a satire of modern media, fame, and self-centered behavior.
