The story follows Peter Schlemihl, a man who sells his shadow to a mysterious stranger in exchange for great wealth.
However, he soon realizes that losing his shadow has serious consequences: people become afraid of him and avoid him. He is then forced to search for a way to understand his situation and regain a normal life.
